Because you have forgotten who you are, Ego made up a system using paper to determine the quality of your Life Style. Because you have forgotten Who's you are, you believe one's Life Style is what's used to determine the level of success and/or accomplishments achieved. This may be the reason those whom are born into wealth are envied for not having to work for their lavish Life Style or hated for not having to work for it like the majority of the world population. 

This paper has become, for far too many, more valuable than Life itself which, ironically is priceless in the eyes of God. Because you have forgotten who you are, Ego uses Fear to keep you from remembering that God is control at all Times (good and bad.) You forgot that, which explains why this paper has become more important to you than anyone/thing else in that it's the first thing you think of when you awake, all throughout the day and the last thing on your mind when your day is done. To sell or sacrifice your Soul, in some industries, is considered the norm for "there is a price to pay for everything in this world!" says Ego.

"Thou shall have no other gods before me" means just that! The love of it, to worry obsessively about how to get more of it, to believe it holds the answer, etc., is precisely what causes Pain and Suffering. Anything apart from God causes Pain and Suffering, particularly when the intent is to get more for yourself at the expense of another.

Do not continue to be fooled into believing because this paper rules the world, that God has lost His Power and so it controls you too. See it for what it is, paper. See God, through Faith (your Spiritual eyes) for what He is, The Provider and you will have readjusted Life back to reality where you will be in Peace. Peace
